En studie av temavalg i barnehagelærerstudentenes bacheloroppgave i lys av barnehagens samfunnsmandat

Sammendrag

Barnehagelærerstudentenes bacheloroppgave skal være praksisrettet og forskningsbasert, og den blir dermed en bidragsyter til barnehagelærerens kompetanse. Barnehagens samfunnsmandat er nedfelt i Barnehageloven, og blir nærmere utdypet i Forskrift om rammeplan for barnehagens innhold og oppgaver. Denne artikkelen retter et kritisk blikk mot studentenes temavalg i bachelor skrivingen og diskuterer dette opp mot mandatet. Ivaretar studentene fagområdene i Forskrift om rammeplan for barnehagens innhold og oppgaver, eller er det områder som ikke blir ivaretatt? Dokumentanalysen av 190 bacheloroppgaver fra perioden 2012–2015 viser stor temarikdom som dekker mange av fagområdene, men fagområdet Etikk, religion og filosofi er lite vektlagt. Det samme gjelder realfagsområdet Antall, rom og form; på tross av satsingen på realfag i skole og barnehage. Det er dessuten svært få studenter som skriver om tema som vennskap, humor, lokalhistorie, kulturformidling og teknologi. Studentenes bacheloroppgave spiller en sentral rolle i studentens identitetsdanning og faglige fundament, og bacheloroppgaven bør ansees som en ressurs for å imøte komme barnehagens samfunnsmandat.

Bachelor Thesis for Students in Early Childhood Education

The bachelor thesis for students in early childhood education is supposed to be practice-oriented and research based, and they should be one of many ways in which to reach the educational goals. The writing of the bachelor thesis thus becomes an important contribution to the competence development of coming kindergarten teachers. This article aims at critically reviewing the students’ choices of topics, and will discuss these in relation to the social mandate of Norwegian kindergartens. Do the students’ choices incorporate the learning areas from the Framework plan? The social mandate of kindergartens is described in the Kindergarten Act and in the Framework plan, and the competence of the kindergarten teacher is supposed to enable him or her to realize this mandate. This study is analyzing 190 bachelor theses from 2012 to 2015, and the texts show a range of topics that cover many of the learning areas from the Framework plan, but topics like ethics, religion, philosophy and mathematics are rarely chosen. In addition, only a few students write about topics such as friendship, humor, local history, cultural mediating and technology. The students’ bachelor theses play an important role developing the students’ identity and professional foundation, and the bachelor theses should be a resource in manifesting the social mandate.
