Author Guidelines

Preparing for submission of a peer reviewed article

Nordic Journal of Pedagogy and Critique considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that:

  • A manuscript submitted to the journal does not duplicate any other previously published work, including your own.
  • The manuscript should not be under consideration elsewhere.
  • Articles can be up 6000 words, references and abstracts included.

Please note that the submitting author will be the principal contact for editorial correspondence throughout the peer review and proofreading process.

Authorship

Who can be considered an author? The journal adheres to The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and their recommendation that the author:

  1. Make substantial contributions to ideas, design and acquisition, analysis and interpretation of data
  2. Be responsible for drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content
  3. Give final approval of the version to be published
  4. Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Manuscripts generated through the use of ChatGPT or other large language models (LLMs), generative AI, or chatbots do not satisfy the journal's criteria for authorship, and AI tools cannot be listed as an author. Manuscripts must be written by persons who can account for and claim responsibility for the originality and integrity of the content. Furthermore, authors must disclose the extent to which any AI tools may have been used in preparation of written, visual or graphic elements of their manuscripts. The publisher ascribes to COPE's position statement regarding authorship and AI tools; see more information here.

Plagiarism Detection

Cappelen Damm Forskning, the open access division of Cappelen Damm Akademisk, is a member of CrossRef and uses iThenticate, a plagiarism detection software that verifies the originality of content submitted, before publication. iThenticate checks submissions against countless of published research papers and web content. NOASP uses iThenticate to screen all submissions for plagiarism before publication, but authors, researchers and freelancers are also free to use iThenticate by visiting their website

Language

All articles should be written in one of the Scandinavian languages or in English – British or American – as long as the language is consistent. Please subject the manuscript to professional language editing before submitting the final version if you are not writing in your first language.

Manuscript Layout

Wherever possible, the paper should follow the traditional layout. Insert running page numbers.

To facilitate the peer review process, please provide a complete manuscript as a Word (.docx) or OpenDocument (.odt) file, including all figures, tables, legends and supplementary material (if applicable), which are to be placed at the end of the manuscript, after the bibliography. PDF, RTF or WordPerfect document file formats are also acceptable.

Title Page

Organize the title page in the following way:

  1. title of manuscript
  2. name of author(s)
  3. institution or department affiliation
  4. email addresses of all authors (listed alphabetically by authors' initials)
  5. name and full postal and email address of the corresponding author, who will act as 'Guarantor' for all contributing authors
  6. author biographies (three to five lines) for each author, including information regaring their position, field, affiliated institution or departement as well as previous relevant publications (if applicable)

Please observe that the journal adheres to a double-blind peer review. The title page revealing the identity of the authors must therefore be uploaded separately.  It is also important to ensure anonymization in your manuscript to enable the peer review. Please see Ensuring a blind review.

Abstract

All submissions (research papers, book reviews and invited editorials) must include an abstract of 150–200 words. After the abstract, please give 3–5 key words; avoid words used in the title. Submissions in the Scandinavian languages must also have an English abstract, English title and English keywords.

Section Headings

Please do not number section headings. Use a maximum of three levels of headings made clear by orthographic indicators, i.e. capital letters, bold etc.

Format: use Times New Roman, point 12 and 1,5 spacing throughout your manuscript, also in indented quotations. Do not use any unnecessary formatting features (justification or hyphenation). Use one space in between words. Use one tab stop in the beginning of a paragraph (1,25 cm indentation), except after headings and indented quotations. Do not use a blank line in between paragraphs. Use a blank line or a line spacing of 10 pts. before headings and indented quotations. Do not use quotation marks for indented quotations.

Quotations

Use double quotation marks. Use single quotations marks for quotations within quotations. When citing texts in languages that are widely understood, use the original text and provide, if necessary, a translation into your own language in the footnote. If the work is not translated, provide your own translation and make a note of it in the citation: (Gramsci, 1947, p. 13; my translation). Use brackets when altering or abreviating quotes, inserting words or pauses. For example, "This is a [...] quote". Do not use "..." at the beginning of a quote. Place punctuation outside the quotation marks unless the punctuation is a part of the quote itself.

Italics

Use italics for concepts and whole works (books, journals, newspapers). Use double quotation marks for parts of a work (articles, fairy tales, verses). Mark the place in the text where you suggest illustrations/graphs/charts with square brackets, on a separate line, preferably between two paragraphs: for example [Ill. 1]. Alternatively, place the illustration in its correct place within the text. Illustrations and tables should be incorporated in the main text file, not uploaded separately.

Figures

Upon acceptance, please supply figures/graphics/images in at least 300 dpi. If the figures/graphics/images have been taken from sources not copyrighted by the author, it is solely the author's responsibility to secure the rights from the copyright holder before reproducing those figures/graphs/images for both worldwide print and web publication. All reproduction costs charged by the copyright holder must be borne by the author. When figures/graphs/images are reproduced, a parenthesis should be added to the figure legend thus: (Reproduced with permission from X.)

References and citations

For all citations, please follow the APA 7 standard:

Footnotes

Should be used for additional information, not references.
