Utdanning, rasialisering og tilhørighetens grenser

Abstract

Språklige konstruksjoner bærer med seg forestillinger om tilhørighet og verdi, så vel som avvik og underordning. Denne artikkelen bygger på funn fra analyser av dialoger mellom studenter og forelesere i fire bacheloremner ved to norske universitet. Vi viser hvordan dialogene produserer forestillinger om det norske som setter grenser for tilhørighet og rasialiserer deler av befolkningen. Med utgangspunkt i funnene diskuterer artikkelen utdanningssystemets rolle i å utfordre diskursivt konstruerte maktstrukturer.

Education, racialization and the boundaries of belonging

Linguistic constructions carry notions of belonging and value as well as deviation and subordination. This article is based on findings from analyses of dialogues between students and lecturers in four bachelor subjects at two Norwegian universities. We show how the dialogues produce images of what it is to be Norwegian, implying boundaries of belonging as well as racializing parts of the population. Based on the findings, the article discusses the role of the education system in challenging discursively constructed power structures.
