Hvorfor akkurat kritikk?

English abstract

Presenting The Nordic Journal of Pedagogy and Critique. Why include the word critique? Michael Apple, who has followed the development in the States closely, gives an answer in his essay, "Reflections on the Educational Crisis and the Task of the Critical Scholar/Activist": according to Apple, the educational sector, from preschool to higher education, has become a place of conflict, and schools are facing a crisis. Education has increasingly become defined by thoughts on productivity and competition and the measuring of results, and as such at odds with the overarching charges of education, such as the tasks of conveying values, forming and preparing students for participating in a democratic society. Conflict between these two paradigms most often arises on the topic of single issues, where political and bureaucratic forces face opposition because they ignore objections to their policies and override the grassroots. Teachers' disciplinarity is moreover being trumphed by the management prerogative of the state and communes. Apple describes the current situation in ideological terms, stating that politicians' joy of management is being coupled with strong regulations on research and on the substantive conclusions of the researchers themselves. We find ourselves in a political situation where even those who by not taking a stand in fact do take a stand by wishing to remain neutral and performing their work without a protest.
