Studien tar utgangspunkt i ideen om at det finnes en rekke ulike måter å definere begrepet rasisme på, og at disse ulike måtene medfører ulik forståelse av hvordan rasisme materialiseres i samfunnet. Undersøkelsen viser at de sentrale momentene i elevenes rasismebegrep er at rasisme for dem har et uklart epistemologisk grunnlag, at det har et individuelt utgangspunkt og at dagens Norge er et post-rasistisk samfunn. Denne konseptualiseringen av rasismebegrepet gjør at elevene velger å beskrive sentrale potensielt rasistiske hendelser i samtiden som ikke-rasistiske.</p><h3 class="label">English abstract</h3><p><strong>Norwegian pupils’ conceptualisation of racism</strong></p><p>Based on focus group interviews with pupils in secondary schools, this article presents an inquiry on how Norwegian pupils conceptualise the concept of racism. The idea that there is a range of different definitions of racism, and that these different definitions will lead to different ideas about how racism is materialised, is central to the study. The study shows that the dominant features in the pupils’ conceptualisation of racism is the idea that racism has an uncertain epistemological foundation, that racism primarily refers to acts by and against individuals and that Norway is a post-racial society. This conceptualisation excludes many potentially racist phenomenon from the term racism.</p> ER -
